Trails and Interpretive Centres
The mining trails and interpretive centres are an excellent introduction to the territory and mining activity.
Trails
The Argemela trail is a circular route that takes you to the different areas of this concession, including ventilation shafts, galleries and a washing plant; as well as to the hillfort, from where you can enjoy a remarkable panoramic view of Estrela, Açor, Gardunha and Cova da Beira.
The Mineiro and Saltipilha routes are linear and linked to each other, allowing you to go from Barroca Grande, the heart of current mining activity, to S. Jorge da Beira at the foot of the Açor, passing through Panasqueira, a nostalgic town with a vivid memory of the black gold era.
Interpretive Centres
The Interpretive Centre in Argemela (Barco) is a real site museum, as in addition to the mining theme, it also covers local history, landscapes, uses and characters.
In Barroca Grande, the Mining Interpretive Centre takes us to the Panasqueira Mining Complex of yesterday and today, to the different phases of exploration and their techniques, and to the day-to-day life of the mining community.
